AC/DC '74 Jailbreak
Illustrated Zine And Animations
This is a personal project that was made in 2024 with an intention to commemorate the 40th anniversary of AC/DC's mini album '74 Jailbreak (it was released in 1984 and marked the band's 10th anniversary). It is a compilation of 5 songs that were cut from the international releases of the band's first albums.
I decided to find a common theme in all these unrelated to each other songs and realized that they all have motifs of domination and desire for freedom: some characters want to dominate the others while the others try to free themselves. I decided to execute all the animations with one simple continuous line, which symbolizes the theme of control and dependence. And, of course, this line represents the analog track of the sound.
Этот личный проект, сделанный в 2024 году, посвящён 40 юбилею со дня выхода альбома ACDC '74 Jailbreak (он вышел в 1984 году и отмечал 10 юбилей группы). Это сборник из 5 песен, которые вырезали из международных релизов первых австралийских альбомов группы: Hgh Voltage (1975) and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (1976).
Эти песни никак не связаны между собой, но я решила найти у них какую-то общую тему и поняла, что везде есть мотивы доминирования и стремления к свободе: одни люди желают физически или ментально властвовать над вторыми. А вторые мечтают освободиться от всякого постороннего влияния. Я решила выполнить все анимации одной непрерывной линией, которая будет символизировать физические или ментальные путы, которые окутывают героев. Ну и, конечно, эта линия олицетворяет собой звуковую аналоговую дорожку.
Jailbreak (from Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, 1976)
For me the plot of this song is The Shawshank Redemption with a minus sign, i.e. the hero really killed his wife and lover, went to prison, escaped... but he was eventually caught up and punished. The motif of barbed wire with its “rough” and uncomfortable contours emerged naturally with the theme of prison.
Для меня сюжет этой песни - это сюжет "Побега из Шоушенка" со знаком минус, то есть герой действительно убил жену с любовником, загремел в тюрьму, сбежал… но его в итоге догнали и расстреляли. Закономерно с темой тюрьмы возник мотив колючей проволоки с "шершавыми" неуютными контурами.
You Ain't Got A Hold On Me (from High Voltage, 1975)
This illustration continues the theme of striving for freedom that is manifested in this and the previous song, although in this case it refers to freedom from relationships, commitments and attachments.
Эта иллюстрация продолжает мотив стремления к свободе, который проманифестирован как в первой, так и во второй песне альбома (название песни переводится как «Ты не можешь меня удержать»), хоть в этом случае и имеется в виду свобода от отношений, обязательств и привязанностей.
Show Business (from High Voltage, 1975)
This illustration was inspired by the famous posters for the movie “The Godfather” with a hand clutching a puppet and these lines from the song:
You learn to sing
You learn to play
Why don't the businessmen ever learn to pay?
Вдохновением для этой иллюстрации послужили знаменитые постеры фильма «Крёстный отец» с рукой, сжимающей марионетку, и эти строки из песни: You learn to sing / You learn to play / Why don't the businessmen ever learn to pay? (Ты учишься петь / Ты учишься играть / Почему бизнесмены никогда не учатся платить?)
Soul Stripper (from High Voltage, 1975)
For this illustration I decided to visualize these lines from the chorus of the song:
She was a soul stripper
She took my heart
She was a soul stripper
And tore me apart
Здесь я решила проиллюстрировать строчки из песни: She was a soul stripper / She took my heart / She was a soul stripper / And tore me apart (Она была душевной стриптизершей / Она забрала мое сердце / Она была душевной стриптизершей / И разорвала меня на части)
Baby, Please Don't Go (from High Voltage, 1975)
There are shown the character's attempts to prevent the breakup. The character is trying to hold on to his soul mate to keep her from leaving, which then turns to the cituation when he is trying to hold on to the emotional weight of the relationship, which could fall and crush him.
Здесь показаны попытки героя предотвратить разрыв отношений. Герой пытается удержать свою вторую половинку от ухода, а затем пытается устоять перед эмоциональным грузом этого потрясения, который, "упав" на него, может его раздавить.
