My task was to create an alternative cover for the fantasy novel Black Sunrise. It is set in a fictional world based on Mongolian and Turkic cultures. I wanted to reflect this, so I decided to depict a typical Mongolian landscape, namely a steppe surrounded by a chain of mountains. I also wanted to show the beauty of traditional clothing and jewelry, but the main character in the story hides that she is the heir to the throne and wears simple clothes, so I decided to show her past life on the blade of a sword, namely she has long hair and a royal outfit.
I only created the illustration. Typographic elements are from the original book.
