“It’s a great pleasure to announce the first solo show of enigmatic artist and designer, De RRusie.
As the art and design worlds grow increasingly brash and gaudy, clamouring for your attention, De RRusie sits alone, quiet and dignified, the epitome of counter-culture. When it is de rigueur to engage in shock tactics or the shouty politics of identity in order to be heard, De RRusie’s voice is calm and steady, striving for that increasingly elusive quality - beauty. Influenced by great ’touche a tout’ talents such as Jean Dunand and Karl Friedrich Schinkel, via J.M.W. Turner and psychedelic music, his oeuvre is a coherent vision with a distinctive decorative signature. Uninterested by categorisation, the artist makes monumental paintings, designs furniture, clothing and jewellery. This exhibition will showcase these different media together for the first time. As the pressure grows to conform in society, doing the social media dance for approval and acceptance - De RRusie offers a sincere alternative.
He reminds us that being an artist in the age of late-stage capitalism requires discipline, solitude and fortitude. And his work reminds us that not everything has been done already, and that new forms can spring from a life lived authentically”
