Manholes of Japan is an interactive web experience and print piece that explores the hidden art beneath our feet—decorative Japanese manhole covers.
The project features a map-based website where users can explore real manholes
from across Japan, each with its own story and design.

At the heart of the experience is a puzzle mini-game: spin and align pieces
of each manhole cover to reveal the full image and unlock its details on the map.
This playful interaction turns learning into discovery, encouraging users to dive
deeper into the culture behind each design.

In addition to the digital part, the project includes a printed leaflet —
a collectible object that extends the visual language of the site into the
physical world.
